Weight Loss for Back Pain

Did you know that being overweight could contribute to your back pain? It’s well-known that obesity can cause problems breathing, fatigue and many other health related issues but many people don’t associate it with pain in the back, shoulders and neck. Even though the exact reason why being obese can cause back pain is unknown, studies have shown that when a person is overweight, it puts a lot of stress and strain on your body. This combined with the lack of exercise could be the main reasons why people who are overweight are at a higher risk for back pain.

For this reason, weight loss to help ease this type of pain is recommended for anyone who is obese and suffering from pain in their back. However, it’s vital that you lose the weight correctly. You should never try to take short cuts by starving yourself or abusing diet pills. Instead, it’s recommended that you start a weight loss regiment that includes a healthy diet, proper exercise and plenty of rest.

Being overweight can put so much strain on your spinal column that it can push the vertebrae out of alignment and all of your muscles will have to work much harder to accomplish the same everyday tasks. This is why so many health care providers tell their patients it’s important for them to maintain a healthy weight.

If you’re obese it can be very difficult to lose those extra pounds needed to put you back to a healthy weight. Your doctor may be able to help you out and make suggestions that can benefit you. They can give you a list of healthy foods and recommend exercises that are suited for you personally based on your overall health condition.

If you’re still having trouble losing the weight that you need to, then you may want to consider joining a fitness program. This can be with either a small group or a private instructor, whichever you prefer. Either way, they can help you put together the prefect exercise or diet plan that will help you lose the weight you need to.

If it’s been awhile since you’ve exercised it’s important that you start out slowly and work your way up. If you start out pushing too hard you can do damage to your back and other parts of the body. If you feel pain when exercising, stop and rest. Walking is a great way to get exercise when you first start out and water exercises are becoming quite popular as well. If you continue to have pain when exercising, see your doctor to find out if there are other options such as physical therapy that can help you get started.

Studies show that people who lose a significant amount of weight can greatly reduce back pain and it can help you live a happier, healthier life. It’s recommended that you watch your weight carefully and take measures to stay within a healthy range.
