Have you been injured in a car accident or have some type of medical condition that is causing you to have severe back pain? If so, then you may want to consider seeing a chiropractor to help alleviate this pain. Even if you don’t know the cause of your pain, this still may be something that can help you feel better. Living with any type of back pain can be very difficult. This is especially true when the pain is constant and you can’t seem to find any relief.
If you’ve considered being treated by a chiropractor but not sure if it’s safe or if it’s for you, then you may be a little more comfortable with the idea if you take the time to learn more about what it has to offer. Studies done on clinical trials show that this type of treatment is safe and it can be very effective for many people. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s for everyone.
People with osteoporosis or nerve damage that causes tingling, numbness, weakness and similar symptoms should not seek the services of a chiropractor. If you’ve had spinal surgery in the past, always check with your physician before you make the decision to have this type of treatment. Anyone suffering from inflammatory arthritis or anyone on blood thinning medications will not be a good candidate for this treatment.
It takes time for back pain to heal but receiving this type of treatment can be very beneficial in easing the pain. When you see a chiropractor they will most likely recommend a spinal adjustment. This is used to restore your spinal movement, which in turn will help to improve your mobility so you can function more normally. This usually involves quite a bit of cracking and popping sounds that can be a little scary.
However, chiropractic treatment also involves relaxing muscles through massaging and stretching them. Ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation combined with an exercise routine can also be used and they can be extremely beneficial. If you’ve been cleared with your physician to seek out this treatment, there are a few things that you can do to prepare for your treatment.
• Start out with a consultation with the chiropractor of your choice to discuss your back pain and the treatment options they feel would work best for your unique situation.
• Make sure that you understand the risks involved with this type of treatment even though serious complications are rare.
• Have all of your medical records sent to the office so the chiropractor can have all of your information. Some of this can be very beneficial even though they will perform their own exam.
• Be prepared to follow the advice of the chiropractor even when it comes to nutritional suggestions.
It’s always best to prevent back pain whenever possible with regular exercise, practicing good posture habits and being careful when you’re lifting heavy objects. Take short breaks often if you sit for long periods of time and take a few minutes to stretch and keep your muscles flexible.
