Back pain and stress have much more in common than many people know. There is actually a strong connection between the two because when stress hormones increase, a person’s pain awareness will also increase. This essentially makes you more aware of the pain you have. Another reason stress can cause back pain is because it causes the muscles to tighten putting even more strain on them and it can cause spasms as well.
In the society that we live in today, it can be very difficult to avoid stress. It’s in our homes, our jobs and it can even be stressful traveling to and from work. For this reason, it’s important that you learn how to manage stress and keep your stress levels as low as possible. When you become stressed your back pain will increase and when you have pain in your back it can cause you to be stressed out. As you can see, it’s a never ending cycle that can continue to get worse with time unless you break it.
To relieve stress you’ll need to find something that you enjoy doing that you personally find relaxing. A few suggestions are listed below:
• Fishing
• Painting
• Sports
• Drawing
• Reading
• Jogging
• Music
It doesn’t matter what you do to reduce your stress levels, the important thing is that you find something that works for you personally. Everyone is different so what works for one person may make another person even more stressed out. Therefore, this is something that you’ll have to find and do on your own.
When your muscles are tense it reduces the amount of blood that flows to your tissues. This lengthens the amount of time that it takes for your body to heal from a strain or some other form of injury that could be causing the back pain. The extra tension that stress can put on your back also makes you more prone to injuries that affect the back, neck and shoulders.
If you tend to stay stressed out often and you have back pain, the two could be closely related. Take a look at your life and see if there are any changes that you can make to help reduce the stress. You may discover that the pain in your back is easing up as well. It would certainly be worth a try and reducing stress can even help in other areas of your life. Who wouldn’t want to eliminate their back pain and feel better all over while doing something that you truly enjoy?
